We may have lost Derrick, but we got the best replacement…. and a professional dancer … to step in and keep the Hip Hop going! In this club, students will take part in a movement/hip hop course where they will learn to build their stamina, foster creativity and become great dancers. Saquan was a former Disney cast member and currently teaches at several dance studios.

Comic Book Art llustration Club

Club members will learn how to draw their own comic book covers, characters & creatures. They will learn how to draw facial expressions and actions while exploring their creativity and building technical skills. While new to Elysian, substitute Julian has been teaching at Hoboken’s premier art school, Urban Arts, for the past 2 years where he assists in the Comic Book Art class, Student Prospective and Life Drawing classes.

Want to be a Pop Star when you grow up? Do you wonder how Katie Perry or Justin Bieber write those popular songs that zoom to the top of the Pop charts? Well, you’re about to find out if you have what it takes to be the next great songwriter and performer! In this club, you will work together to write, record and perform an original Elysian hit! Each club member will receive a copy of the finished song at the end of the session. Who knows…. Maybe we will all hear it on the radio one day!

Nano Bots Lego Robotics

Nano Bots uses Lego based kits appropriate for hands on building and programming projects that introduce STEM and Art concepts in a fun manner. Students get an understanding of what robotics systems and basic programming are about using an easy Drag and Drop program. The projects they make include various themes from the animal kingdom, soccer playing robots to making useful simple machines and racing cars that they will then program to react to movements & objects.

This club will help young children develop healthy habits and a healthy self image (just ask the many kids who have taken it and LOVE IT!). Club participants will be introduced to a variety of exercise styles (yoga, stretching) and cooperative exercise games. We will also learn about healthy snacks and how healthy foods fuel our bodies. We will finish each week with positive thoughts, ideas and goals by writing in our journals…. and munching on a healthy snack!

Each week we will create unique pieces of jewelry using a variety of beads in all shapes, sizes and colors. Club members will design bracelets, earrings and necklaces that they can then show off with pride! A professional jewelry maker will join us a special guest to speak about her craft and share some of her own jewelry pieces.

In this club, students will explore various creative writing activities to get their creative juices flowing. Kids can bring their own projects that they’ve already been working on or create new ideas and pieces in club. Short stories, poetry, a novel….. the sky’s the limit! The club will culminate with a published booklet.

Beginner and experienced stitchers welcome!! If you have experience, you will be challenged with new skills and projects. M Avery Designs, in partnership with Sew Fun Studios, is a mobile after school sewing program. We teach basic sewing & design skills to create popular projects to this age group including fashion accessories/bags, clothing, stuffed animals, toys, home décor items and more. We try hard to never repeat a project! Students work on projects using a sewing machine, as well as hand sewing using a needle and thread. All students keep their projects.

Students will learn to create their own computer games and fun animations with SCRATCH programming, a visual programming language. SCRATCH, developed by MIT, helps kids to learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively – essential skills for life! This club will be a fun introduction to programming for those with no previous experience but those who are already familiar with the program can continue to challenge themselves.

Join us in this fantastical, fun-filled adventure where you’ll become a fully practicing magician! In this club you’ll discover the magic secrets tightly guarded for centuries, passed down only from magician to magician. We will learn to perform famous wonders such as making objects disappear from thin air (and then materialize again!) and how to astound your audience with a mastery of mind-reading tricks. All of the tricks you’ve learned in class will be yours to take home so you can amaze your friends & family! When they ask “how did you do that?” all you have to say is “it’s magic!”

This club is great for anyone who enjoys science, art or anything related to gardening.

Wire Art Jewelry is jewelry that emphasizes creative expression and design. It is characterized by the use of a variety of materials including metal, wood, glass, found objects and paper to name a few. Class projects will be a mix of jewelry and small objects. Students will be taught basic knowledge of tools and materials being used. The class will focus on learning wire forming, cold connection, resin, found objects, stamping, texturing, rivets and much more…. And you get to bring your bling home!
