About Elysian
At Elysian Charter School, we inspire and educate students to become curious, lifelong learners, prepared for future success. We nurture an appreciation for the arts, culture, and global diversity while emphasizing the importance of community. By recognizing each child's unique strengths, we foster growth and achievement.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
At Elysian Charter School, we believe that learning is most meaningful when it is rooted in a strong sense of community and guided by each child’s developmental stage. Our small class sizes foster close relationships and allow teachers to provide individualized support. We offer a curriculum aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, brought to life through hands-on, project-based learning experiences. Collaboration is at the heart of our approach, students are encouraged to explore, question, and work together to solve real-world problems in ways that deepen understanding and spark curiosity. Whenever possible, we integrate the arts and music into academic instruction to enrich learning, promote creativity, and support multiple modes of expression across subject areas.

History
ELYSIAN HISTORY
Founded in 1997, Elysian Charter School of Hoboken was established by Mile Square Families, a dedicated group of local parents committed to enhancing public education and the quality of life in Hoboken. As one of New Jersey’s first 13 charter schools, Elysian opened its doors in September 1997 after receiving its official charter in January of that year.
Located near the Hudson River in the Mile Square City, our school fosters an interdisciplinary and hands-on approach to learning in a close-knit, supportive environment. Our name, inspired by Greek mythology and Hoboken's historic Elysian Fields, reflects our commitment to creating a place of inspiration, exploration, and academic excellence.
Since its founding, Elysian Charter School has been recognized as a model charter school, embodying innovation and personalized education while maintaining a small-school feel.
ELYSIAN CULTURE & COMMUNITY
The Elysian community of children, parents, teachers, and friends is tightly-knit and welcoming, fostering a culture of inclusion where everyone can contribute meaningfully. This spirit is reflected in events such as:

Community Meetings
Individual classes showcase songs, dances, or skits, while the entire school community gathers to celebrate student achievements and foster a sense of unity.

Kuumba Day
As a cherished rite of passage, third-grade students perform a traditional African dance that honors creativity, culture, and the spirit of community.

Sporting Events
The Elysian Eagles compete with pride, supported by dedicated coaches, teachers, and families. These events highlight the values of teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit.

Field Trips
Engaging, hands-on experiences at local nature centers, museums, and historic sites enrich classroom learning and spark curiosity.

Family events
Elysian hosts a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year, including STEAM Saturdays, seasonal picnics, movie nights, Halloween celebrations, and our exciting First Day Bash. These events are designed to foster community, creativity, and connection among students and their families.
